The Other House was my first Workaway experience and I think I have been spoilt rotten! Izu Okawa is a lovely village which is beautifully peaceful and very quiet. I loved staying in Okawa and experiencing what I think is the 'real' Japanese way of living.
From saying "Ohio Gozimas" to a neighbour on my way out for a morning jog to baring it all and taking a dip in the local onsen, I embraced local life. I especially enjoyed buying my daily eggs from the village vending machine. That's right, an egg vending machine!

There is SO much to do in the surrounding area and its super easy to get around with the train station literally on the doorstep. I particuarly enjoyed walking along the Jogasaki coast, which was a stunning day out strolling along and soaking in the dramatic views.

Another highlight was spending a sunday morning picking oranges from the tree and making souviner cups and straws from Bamboo. A pretty unique experience to say the least!

I loved the way that living in Okawa made me feel so relaxed. The freedom to stroll down the beach or hop on a train to visit a different town was great. We also visited some abandoned buildings that were very close by to partake in some Urban Exploring - spooky but good fun! Similarly I felt completely happy sitting on the terrace at The Other House, watching the world go by...Nice and slowly!

This was my first stop in Japan, I can't wait to explore more but I am so sad to leave! Thank you Rob and The Other House for a brilliant 10 days.
